Dr. Shahidur Rashid is the Director of South Asia at International Food Policy Research Institute. He has conceptualized and implemented multi-country research programs in both Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa.
He is currently leading programs with regional bodies which includes South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) and Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to translate research into policy actions, to improve food and nutrition security both in South Asia and Southeast Asia.
Prior to assuming the South Asia position, he has widely conducted research and coordinated IFPRI’s programs on agricultural markets and trade related issues in East and South Africa Regional office. Dr. Rashid earned his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an MS in economics from Chittagong University, Bangladesh. His research has been published through highly respected academic publishing houses and his work has been widely cited.
