Dr. Cherdsak Virapat obtained his Ph.D. in Fisheries Management from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada in 1993. He is currently Director General of Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP).
Before joining CIRDAP, he had served as Fishery Biologist, Thailand’s Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives during 1981-2003; Director of International Ocean Institute Thailand Operational Centre during 2001-2007; Director of Public Sector Development Group, Office of Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Thailand during 2003-2007; Chief of International Coordination, Thailand’s National Disaster Warning Center, Office of Prime Minister, Thailand during 2005-2007.
With more than 20 years of international experiences, he has performed his duties as Chief Executive Officer of these organizations in areas of fishery management, disaster early warning and mitigation systems and risk reduction, ocean governance, public management, aquaculture, trade and development and integrated rural development
