Dr. Hongmei Yi is a professor at the School of Advanced Agricultural Sciences, the deputy director of the Institute for New Rural Development, and a senior research fellow at the China Center for Agricultural Policy (CCAP), Peking University. Before joining Peking University in 2016, she worked at the Chinese Academy of Sciences for six years. Her research interests are development economics and agricultural economics. She has been exploring how to improve the design of relevant public policies by impact evaluation and social experiments to improve their performances. By March 2024, she has more than 100 publications in esteemed journals such as the Journal of Development Economics, the Journal of Comparative Economics, and the BMJ, among others. She also actively supports government policy decisions. Of a series of policy briefs she submitted, most were noted by national leaders. Her current projects focus on three critical areas: understanding the dynamics of digital technology adoption in agriculture, strategies for enhancing farmers’ income to facilitate shared prosperity, and identifying and developing crucial human capital in the digital age.
